GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman — Florida sophomore Liv McGill learned recognition as the Most Outstanding Player of the Cayman Islands Classic on Saturday evening, following her leadership in guiding the Gators to two wins during the Thanksgiving weekend event.

The preseason All-SEC pick averaged 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 block across the two contests, helping Florida move to an 8-1 record.

In the matchup against Memphis on Friday, Nov. 28, McGill posted 27 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in Florida’s 74-60 win over the Tigers.

She followed that performance with another 27-point outing on Saturday, Nov. 29 versus Georgia Tech. The Minneapolis native added three rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocks as the Gators secured a 65-56 win over the Yellow Jackets.

This latest honor adds to McGill’s growing list of achievements. Earlier this season, McGill was named the SEC Player of the Week and a USBWA National Player of the Week on Nov. 11 after averaging 27.7 points, 7.3 assists, and 5.0 steals during the opening week.

As of Saturday, Nov. 29, McGill ranked second nationally in scoring (26.3 points per game), tied for 19th in assists (6.0 per game), and tied for seventh in steals (4.0 per game).

Florida now stands at 8-1 overall. A victory on Thursday at Virginia Tech would match the program’s best start through 10 games. Nine previous Gators teams have opened a season at 9-1, most recently in 2022-23.
