Alexia Dizeko is shining for Team Angola at the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket, dropping 33 points across two impressive games. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Several members of the Florida women's basketball program spent their summer playing overseas for their home national teams. Among them are Alexia Dizeko and Sarah Deng , who have recently begun competition in Africa. Dizeko earned a spot on Angola's national team roster, while Deng is proudly playing for South Sudan. During Angola's Group C match against Egypt on July 27, Dizeko delivered an exceptional performance. She was the only Angolan player to reach double digits, scoring 11 points, alongside 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Dizeko followed this up with an even bigger outing on July 28 against Côte d'Ivoire, pouring in 21 points and leading the team defensively with eight rebounds. Dizeko and Angola are scheduled to face Cameroon on Wednesday, July 30, in a pivotal matchup to qualify for the AfroBasket quarterfinals. That game tips off at 5 p.m. ET inside Palais des Sports in Treichville, Côte d'Ivoire. Florida is also represented in the tournament by Deng on Team South Sudan. Deng and her teammates are making a historic entrance, as South Sudan qualified for the tournament for the very first time via a wildcard entry. Deng has played in two group-phase contests, accumulating a combined 43 minutes of action. In South Sudan's opening game on July 26, Deng topped the team in both assists and steals, tallying three assists and two steals against Mali. Most recently, South Sudan played Cameroon and lost a close 70-63 contest in the Group Phase. South Sudan’s next game is scheduled for July 30, against Egypt. The FIBA AfroBasket tournament is the premiere continental championship for African national teams and is organized by FIBA. It takes place every four years, and the 2025 edition marks the 31st year of the competition. For more information on AfroBasket, please follow this link . FOLLOW THE GATORS
