GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida men's basketball is set to take on UConn in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, Dec. 9, as announced by ESPN.
This marks the second consecutive season the Gators and Huskies will face off, following Florida’s thrilling 77–75 victory in the NCAA second round last March en route to their 2025 national title. The matchup will be broadcast at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN, closing out a doubleheader that begins with BYU vs. Clemson
.
Florida’s season opener features another marquee clash against Arizona in the Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas. The team will also head to San Diego for the Rady Children’s Invitational on Nov. 27–28, joining a competitive lineup that includes Providence, TCU, and Wisconsin.
The Gators return to the Jimmy V Classic and Madison Square Garden for the first time since defeating West Virginia in December 2018. Previous appearances include a 2016 loss to Duke and a 2013 win over Memphis.
The Jimmy V Classic honors legendary coach Jim Valvano and supports the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Now in its 31st year—and 22nd at Madison Square Garden—the event is part of ESPN’s V Week, which raises awareness and funds for cancer research. Since 1993, ESPN has helped generate over $262 million for the V Foundation, with nearly $101 million raised during V Week alone over the past 18 years.
