Todd Golden became the youngest coach to win a national championship since 1983.
Following Florida’s recent men’s basketball national title, the Gators have extended head coach Todd Golden through March 31, 2031. The six-year deal, announced by athletic director Scott Stricklin, is valued at $40.5 million.
Golden, now 39, guided Florida to its third national championship just three seasons into his leadership—marking the program’s first title since 2007. He also became the youngest head coach in over 40 years to win a national championship, a distinction last held by Jim Valvano in 1983.
“Todd has done an incredible job getting Florida men's basketball back where it belongs,” said Stricklin. “We believed in his vision, his competitive nature and his modern approach to the game back in 2022, and he has validated that belief in a relatively short time and helped create memories of a lifetime for another generation of Gator fans.”
Golden expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the program, saying, “My family and I are grateful to be a part of Gator Nation and for the opportunity to lead this great program three years ago… I am so appreciative of each and every player and staff member who have been critical to the success we've experienced here.”
Florida’s championship run included its sixth Final Four appearance, a fifth SEC Tournament title, and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Gators became the first team to defeat three ranked opponents en route to an SEC Tournament win, and closed the season with 12 consecutive victories—nine of which came against top-25 teams, including eight against top-12 programs.
Golden’s current record at Florida stands at 76-33, with a dominant 36-4 finish in the 2024–25 season.
