GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Rueben Chinyelu, a rising junior center, has announced via his social media accounts that he will step away from the NBA Draft process and return to Florida. Earlier this May, Chinyelu participated in the NBA G League Elite Camp held in Chicago from May 9–11.
In his first season with the Gators, Chinyelu posted averages of 6.0 points and 6.6 rebounds, shooting nearly 60% from the field and tallying 34 blocks. His presence played a major role in Florida’s defensive surge and impressive +8.4 rebounding margin during the 2024–25 campaign.
Standing 6-foot-10 and hailing from Nigeria, Chinyelu notched four double-doubles, highlighted by a 19-point, 13-rebound performance at LSU. He also pulled down a personal best 15 rebounds in Florida’s dominant win over No. 1 Tennessee. Over the season, he led or shared the team lead in rebounds 12 times, including a team-high nine boards in the Final Four victory against Auburn.
During his two appearances at the G League Elite Camp, Chinyelu averaged 5.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.
